Barcelona travel guide

When to go, what to book ahead and how to get there.

Best time to go

May, June and late September to October bring warm, long days with fewer crowds than the summer peak.

July and August are the hottest and busiest months and the best time for the beach. Winter is mild and the quietest time of year.

Good to know

  • Sagrada Família tickets are sold online for a specific time, roughly two months ahead. If you arrive late you may not be let in.
  • Park Güell limits visitors per hour. Tickets are personal and timed, and you have 30 minutes after your slot to enter.
  • The city has a dense metro network, so a car is more useful for trips outside Barcelona than in the centre.
